How to Accessorize a Dress: Spice Up a Boring Outfit

Do you have a dress that you never wear because you feel like it just looks drab?

Even if you really like it, maybe it’s just not good as a standalone look. What’s there to do?

Accessorize a Dress

If you want to jazz up your outfits without getting rid of your clothes (you don’t want to be wasteful!), you’re in the right place. We have five ideas for how to accessorize a dress that can match any style.

Keep reading for a bit of style inspiration and a few essential outfit accessories that can totally change up your look.

1. Add a Collar or Cuffs

This is a fun way to add some style to your dress and make it look totally new, but not enough people know about it!

You can get cuffs or a collar that can match your dress without requiring a permanent change. If you know that your dress needs a little something extra but you don’t want to sew or change the dress completely, add a faux collar or cuffs.

They’re often adorned with ribbons, pins, or cufflinks so there’s one for every style.

2. Add Some Cohesive Jewelry

When you have a plain dress you have the freedom to make even simple jewelry the highlight of your outfit.

This is a great time to gather all of your cohesive pieces and turn them into a set. If you’re a rose-gold person, match your necklace, your piercings, your bracelets, any rings and make the focus your awesome shiny accessories.

The more “boring” your outfit the more extras you can add to it.

3. Try a Statement Necklace

Similar but slightly different from #2, consider one very loud piece of jewelry to drown out the drab of your dress.

Statement necklaces are in and you don’t have to coordinate them with anything. A good statement necklace is one of the best outfit accessories for when you’re in a pinch and you don’t know what to add.

Whether you like loud gem-filled baubles or you’re more into a solid gold piece, there’s something out there that will match your style and make a statement.

4. Make It a Mock Skirt or Top

This isn’t done often enough and people are seriously missing out.

If you’ve overworn your dress and you need it to look fresh and new, why not pair it with a different skirt or top to make it look like a totally new piece of clothing?

This won’t work with all kinds of dresses, but as long as either the top or bottom is fairly tight to the body you should have no issue. Add a shirt on top to give yourself a new skirt or roll your skirt up and cover it with some loose pants or a different skirt.

5. Try New Stockings

We’ll be heading into stockings season soon meaning that your opportunities to accessorize are about to increase exponentially.

While you can always opt for the plain nude or black stockings, why not opt for a fun design?

Boring dresses can handle a bit of extra flash on the legs. Some people think that colorful stockings are only for kids, but it’s all about how you style them.
